The Sun mock the iPhone with spoof ad!

The sun mock the iPhone with spoof ad!

Punching in “iPhone Ad Spoof” into Youtube brings up a plethora of novelty iPhone esq. adverts, some a really funny, others… not so much. Therefore it was only a matter of time before a big brand got in on the action.

In order to promote the their 40th anniversary, the Sun newspaper have cleverly (and quite successfully) mimicked the classic iPhone advert.

This is not just about cracking a smile, it is a very clever piece of advertisement which not only appeals to the wider audience but also directly connects with it’s current target audience:

Mainly male, living in the UK. Uncomplicated people living day by day, ‘white van man’, more interested in celebrity gossip and sport than business, politics and finance.

A stolen quote, I must add, but mirrors my thoughts pretty well. It would also be right to assume then, possibly, that a vast majority of these people couldn’t give 2 hoots about the iPhone, its technological advancements or weather “there’s an app for that”. Consequently, making an ad that mocks this, even more appealing to people likely to buy the Sun newspaper. Not bad going!
